A new fiber arts group in the Dayton/Kettering area geared toward men, with nonbinary folks warmly welcome, too. There are some great fiber arts groups around the area, but many have a predominantly female membership. I thought it would be nice to have a group where more men and nonbinary fiber artists can meet, work on projects, share ideas, learn from each other, and just hang out. And we’re not just knitters. If you crochet, weave, spin, embroider, or enjoy other fiber arts, you’re welcome to join us. You don’t need to be an expert, and you don’t even need to bring a project. The goal is to meet some people and build a community around fiber arts. Grab a coffee or tea, bring a project if you have one, and come hang out. If you’ve been looking for a group like this, I’d love to see you there.

TransHearts: Dayton is a confidential, peer-led support group for transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming adults in the Dayton area. Unlike a casual social hour, our meetings follow a structured format designed to move from deep discussion to practical skill-building and resilience. We meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday to share resources, navigate transition challenges, and celebrate trans joy in a safe, affirmative environment. A Workshop on Gender-Affirming Voice Care Location: Second Floor, Community Room Voice pathologist Marissa Nguyen returns to DML to lead a workshop on gender-affirming voice care. Nguyen holds a Master of Arts degree in speech-language pathology from Miami University and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Breakout Option Two: Alteration Nation! A Workshop on Gender-Affirming Clothing Alteration Location: Second Floor, Community Room Jesy Kessel is the owner and creative director of Needle, Ink, & Thread: A Modern Sewing Studio. Learn from her how to alter your existing clothing to better align your gender identity and gender expression. No experience necessary. Johnson is one of the TIME100 Next, TIME‘s annual list of rising stars, as well as one of Out’s 100 Most Influential LGBTQ+ People. George is the author of the New York Times Bestselling Young Adult Memoir All Boys Aren't Blue, which explores their adolescence growing up as a young Black Queer boy in New Jersey through a series of powerful essays. The book is a Teen Vogue Recommended Read, a Buzzfeed Recommended Read, a People Magazine Best Book of the Summer, a New York Library Best Book, and a Chicago Public Library Best Book. In 2024, it topped the American Library Association’s list of most-challenged books, which also included titles by authors like Toni Morrison and John Green. George’s second memoir, We Are Not Broken, tells the vibrant story of George, Garrett, Rall, and Rasul—four children raised by Nanny, their fiercely devoted grandmother.
